How to Improve Your ACT Composite Score?

If you go on searching the internet for such advice, you are bound to be bombarded with tons of pointers giving you vague advice such as – “Practice, Practice, more Practice” and so on.

But if you really wish to achieve a higher ACT composite score, you will need a more targeted approach along with being smart and aggressive about your ACT preps.

Here, in this blog, we bring you a blueprint that would actually help you in a very realistic way, and that is derived from the strategies followed by thousands of successful students – And not some vague strategy!

Understand your capabilities

It is really important that you take a sample real time test before you even dive into the syllabus of the ACT exam, just to know where you stand and what you need to work on.

This exercise will not just give you an idea of your weaknesses, but also tell you more about your strengths. Thus, in order to increase your composite score, you must work on all your weaker sections and try taking it one step at a time.

Focus on individual sections separately

This holds true because in ACT all the 4 sections come with their own specific requirements and you need to apply different tricks to approach each. Starting with:

English section

It is really necessary that you focus on some 10-15 important grammar rules generally loved by the ACT exam such as Punctuation, subject-verb agreement, redundancy, etc.)

These grammar rules are basically everywhere in this section appearing repeatedly – So, master them. Also, know that usually the most concise, shortest and simplest answer is the correct one under ACT. and most importantly, learn to time yourself for each passage and do not waste your time on any one, rather move on to the next one and come back to the previous at a later point in time.

Maths section

Even under ACT maths, you will find repetitive topics such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, etc. So, better understand and focus on the core concepts under these topics and leave out other ones such as Matrices, which are a rare find in this exam.

Remember to review the math formulae that are on the test – yes, they are there! And also a brilliant tip is to start with the middle option – saves a great deal of time – you will thank us later!

Science section

Almost 90% of your answers are hidden in the graphs, pie charts, and other tables – so no more wasting your time reading through the entire passage.

Learn to decode passages with the use of ACT science patterns that the exam follows such as experimental setups, opposing viewpoints, etc.) And to save you more time, as usual, come back to the tough nuts later to crack them.

Reading section

Since you are not here to provide a summary of what you would be reading, but to answer questions under the passage, so try to make the most of your time by skimming through the passages smartly and focus only on the crux and structure to get a proper idea of the content.

You can even target questions by prioritizing them, fr example, by approaching line—reference questions that would take you directly to the passage.

Practice smart – not hard!

there is no point in taking practice tests without any specific motive. Your motive should be to learn from your mistakes.

Also, it would really be better if you practice smartly, that is, by taking simulated real time tests that would replicate the actual ACT exam and help you learn more about your time management skills as well, along with your mistakes. Practicing smartly helps you be more confident.

And the final word

Just before your test day, it is better to focus on your weaknesses and work on them, rather than simply revising what you are already a master of. Most importantly, sleep well, eat healthy, and stay focused.

Also, as a word of advice, it is highly recommended that you join a good coaching institute that would help you learn and practice for your ACT exams in the right way and take you through all your journey hand-in-hand training you appropriately for the same.

Therefore, you need only the experts from the industry such as EduQuest – one of the best ACT exam prep coaches, who understands your concerns like no other and helps you achieve your goals and improve your composite ACT score.
