Studying law in the United Kingdom offers an internationally recognized qualifying law degree (LLB or BA Jurisprudence). However, because top UK universities receive tens of thousands of applications with identical top predicted grades ($A^*A^*A$ or 40+ IB points), admissions tutors rely heavily on the LNAT as an objective discriminator. Understanding how each university evaluates Section A versus Section B is critical to building a smart UCAS application strategy.

Different universities utilize your LNAT results in distinct ways:
- Oxford & Cambridge: Both universities require an early registration deadline (October 15). Your Section A score is used alongside your GCSE/IB/Board grades to determine who receives an interview invitation. During the admissions interview, tutors frequently pull quotes directly from your Section B essay to test your ability to defend your arguments live under scrutiny.
- LSE & UCL: Do not conduct interviews for standard undergraduate law. Therefore, your LNAT Section A score and Section B essay serve as your primary proxy for intellectual rigor, evaluated directly alongside your UCAS personal statement.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I take the LNAT multiple times in one UCAS admissions cycle?
No. Candidates are strictly permitted to sit the LNAT only ONCE per UCAS admissions cycle (between 1 August and 31 July). If you sit the exam more than once in a cycle, your second score will be voided.
Do all UK law schools require the LNAT?
No. Only 9 UK universities require the LNAT (Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, UCL, KCL, Bristol, Durham, Glasgow, and SOAS). Other top universities, such as Warwick, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Queen Mary, do not require the LNAT and assess applications based purely on academic grades and personal statements.
When do UK universities receive my LNAT results?
Pearson VUE transmits your Section A score and Section B essay directly to your nominated UCAS universities. Candidates receive their Section A score via email in mid-February for autumn sittings.
