From Digital SAT format changes to section-specific tactics, this guide covers the full roadmap for top scores in 2025.

The SAT underwent a massive transformation with the shift to Digital SAT (DSAT). If you are preparing in 2025, you need to forget old strategies and build new ones from scratch.

What Changed in Digital SAT?

The test is now adaptive — Module 2 difficulty adjusts based on Module 1 performance. This means your first module performance has outsized importance.

  • Shorter overall duration (2h 14min)
  • Built-in Desmos calculator throughout Math
  • Reading passages are shorter and more focused
  • Adaptive scoring model — Module 1 performance matters most

The students who score 1550+ treat Module 1 like a championship match, not a warmup.

Reading & Writing Section

Each RW question is paired with a single short passage (25–150 words). The question types repeat in a predictable pattern: Information & Ideas, Craft & Structure, Expression of Ideas, Standard English Conventions.

Tip: Master the 4 question-type categories and you can predict what skill is being tested before even reading the question — saving 10–15 seconds per question.

Math Section Strategy

Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem Solving & Data Analysis, and Geometry make up the four domains. The no-calculator section is gone — but do not rely on Desmos for everything. Speed matters.

  • Heart of Algebra: ~35% of Math — master linear equations and inequalities
  • Advanced Math: ~35% — quadratics, functions, and polynomials
  • Data Analysis: ~15% — ratios, percentages, and statistics
  • Geometry: ~15% — area, volume, and basic trigonometry

Frequently Asked Questions

How many months should I prepare for the SAT?

Most students need 4–6 months for a strong score. If you are aiming for 1500+, plan for 6–9 months of structured preparation.

Is a calculator allowed in the Digital SAT?

Yes. The Digital SAT includes Desmos (a graphing calculator) built into the test interface for the entire Math section. However, you should not rely on it for every problem — manual speed is critical.

Can Indian students take the SAT online?

The Digital SAT is taken on a laptop or tablet at a College Board-approved test centre. It is not taken at home. Check College Board's website for centres near you in India.

How many times can I take the SAT?

You can take the SAT as many times as you like. Most universities use Score Choice, meaning they consider your best sitting. We recommend planning for at least 2 attempts.
