For anyone passionate about computer science, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU CS) is the holy grail. The acceptance rate for international CS applicants is below 5%, and the candidate pool is filled with global olympiad winners. Growing up in Bangalore, coding was my life, but I knew I needed world-class standardized test scores and portfolio positioning to stand out.
1. My Baseline & The CMU CS Challenge
My diagnostic SAT score was 1340. While my coding skills were strong, my test pacing was holding me back. To be competitive for CMU, I needed a near-perfect Math SAT score and 5s in AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C, and AP Computer Science A.
| My Performance Parameter | My Baseline | My Verified CMU Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| SAT Math Score | 710 Math Baseline | 790 Math (Official SAT 1460) |
| AP Scores | Unprepared for AP Physics C | 3 Perfect 5s (AP CS A, AP Calc BC, AP Physics C) |
| CMU CS Result | High competition uncertainty | ADMITTED: CMU School of Computer Science |
2. How EduQuest Turned My Dream Into Reality
EduQuest’s STEM team helped me eliminate foolish errors in SAT Math until I scored 790. They guided me through AP problem sets and helped me position my personal coding projects into a compelling admissions thesis.
Opening the CMU portal and reading 'Congratulations! Welcome to Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science' was the greatest feeling of my life. EduQuest pushed me every step of the way.
